Scientific Associate - Virology
We are seeking a highly motivated research specialist
to join a team dedicated to the design, development and evaluation of candidate
vaccines for immunization of humans against infectious diseases. The successful
candidate will apply their skills in molecular biology, primarily toward the
efficient design and optimization of viral vector expression systems for
vaccine delivery, but will also participate in projects involving qPCR, site-directed mutagenesis, optimization of protein
expression, purification of, and molecular characterization of expressed
proteins.
The candidate will have proficiency with SDS-PAGE and Western blotting analysis
of proteins, as well as FACS and imaging based approaches. This position
requires excellent organizational skills, independence, enthusiasm and the
ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
SKILLS
Able to work independently, executing
experiments with limited supervision, but able to take scientific direction
from platform leader and scientists
Solid molecular biology experience including quantitative real time PCR, site-
directed mutagenesis and DNA cloning is essential.
Proficiency in expression optimization, and understanding of host pathogen
interactions is required.
Expertise in virus titrations, mammalian cell culture, generation of stable
cell lines and the transient transfection of cell
lines is highly desirable.
Experience with various imaging techniques and instrumentation, including but
not limited to chemiluminescence and FACS, is a distinct
advantage.
Excellent communication and presentation skills are required.
Desire to drive cutting edge science and make discoveries towards treating
unmet medical needs is essential.
EDUCATION
BS in Microbiology,
Molecular Biology or Protein Biochemistry or related discipline with 3+ years
of laboratory research experience.
