Senior Automation Technician/Engineering Technician

Engineering Technician
Position located in Boston, MA
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose equipment issues and perform hands-on repairs involving mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, controls, and automation systems.
- Assemble, integrate, modify, and commission automated machinery, prototype equipment, and custom manufacturing fixtures.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment uptime, operational efficiency, safety, and overall manufacturing performance.
- Establish and update equipment maintenance procedures, work instructions, and SOPs.
- Lead the preventive maintenance program, including maintenance planning, scheduling, execution, and recordkeeping.
- Review equipment history, downtime trends, maintenance data, and recurring failures to identify opportunities for improved reliability.
- Support equipment installation, qualification, process development, and production ramp-up activities.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Product Development teams to resolve equipment and production issues.
- Provide technical support during new product introductions and the implementation of new automated processes.
- Ensure machinery and automated systems are maintained and operated in accordance with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to equipment maintenance, repairs, modifications, and performance.
Requirements:
- 15+ years of hands-on experience designing, assembling, maintaining, troubleshooting, or supporting automated electro-mechanical equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex automated systems across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, controls, and robotic components.
- Experience working with production automation, motors, sensors, actuators, pneumatics, industrial controls, and related equipment.
- Ability to work hands-on in laboratory, manufacturing, and cleanroom environments while following applicable PPE and safety requirements.
- Experience supporting automated manufacturing operations within medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or another regulated industry strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with PLC-based systems, robotics, machine vision, motion control, or industrial programming is a plus.
